Engage student interest in graphing with this introduction activity, using only a vertical axis. The subject of “mountains” is my response to seeing surprisingly large numbers of teenagers and children climbing mountains, whilst I was on a walking holiday.
The PowerPoint begins with step by step graph drawing points.
Then 5 lists of selected mountain heights (England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales & World) for students to select from, they have different quantities of peak’s listed (6,7,10,12,13), this is included as a Word document as well as on the PowerPoint as a backdrop to your introduction. Students could include additional peaks for which they have researched height details. The resulting work has produced an excellent classroom display for me. My own Excel produced graphs complete the PowerPoint.
