A very detailed lesson that is designed to teach studentsabout biodiversity and relationships between species in the Great Barrier Reef. I used this lesson with high ability year 8 students and is suitable for high ability ks3 students or ks4. It can be adapted to suit lower ability ks3.
The lesson focuses on food chains, food webs and symbiotic relationships in the Great Barrier Reef. It centers around a series of twenty one animal cards which are very detailed (took two hours to make) and discuss key facts such as diet, habitats and defenses which students use to piece together chains, webs and relationships. The lesson is very independent and it has a heavy emphasis on group work. I have included the lesson plan to help.
