Handling Data - Functional Skills Maths - Entry Level 1

This resource has been designed for students working towards Functional Skills Maths qualifications at Entry Level 1 (Edexcel-Pearson, NCFE, City and Guilds, NOCN and Open Awards). It contains an age-appropriate, 36-page workbook and a 115-slide PowerPoint lesson on handling information and data (outcomes 11,12,13).

These resources will help pupils to achieve the following outcomes:

extract information from lists
sort and classify objects using a single criterion
read and draw simple charts and diagrams including a tally chart, block diagram/graph

Workbook

The 35-page workbook includes 9 information pages, 24 worksheets (with answers), 2 progress checks and a certificate of achievement. The resource is available in PDF and an editable PowerPoint version. It can be used for classwork, homework, revision or as an independent learning pack.

PowerPoint Lesson

The editable PowerPoint lesson provides many opportunities for pupils to extract data from lists, tally charts and block graphs. It contains links to several videos on sorting and classifying objects, extracting information from lists/tables/charts, bar graphs and example data handling exam questions. It is ideal for introducing pupils to the data handling component of the specification and for revision purposes.
