History Primary Curriculum Progression Map

This is a highly comprehensive document written as an experienced history subject leader. It outlines the key knowledge and skills taught in each year group for every history unit from EYFS- Year 6. Inline with the most recent Ofsted frame work, this document focuses on the sequential nature of the curriculum, showing clear progression across year groups and coverage of history content taught.

It was written for a school with mixed year group classes on a two year rolling programme and the colour key clearly shows how expectations differ for each year group in terms of vocabulary, knowledge and skills. The document will need to be adapted to suit your school’s individual context, taking into account your units covered on the long term plan and class structures. However, it would provide a very good starting point for any senior or subject leader, faced with the challenge of producing rationales and progression documents of this nature.
