How to teach an extraordinary piece of descriptive writing of a countryside view using a picture as an inspiration.
A descriptive writing question will often be worded: “write a description inspired by the picture.”
The main difficulty many students experience, I have found, is to write a few things and then run out of ideas.
I have found that a method can be used to infuse your students with ideas by breaking the task down into manageable parts using prompts.
To help teach this, here is a list of 11 prompts and then below a fully written example, divided up into prompt sub headings, to show clearly how each prompt can be used, and then below that the example is shown again, in full, without the sub heading prompts.
