This resource enables your pupils to write a highly personalised (and often humorous) leavers’ poem where they are invited to share their primary school memories. Tried-and-tested in the classroom, it consists of a complete lesson plan - including differentiation and examples - and an accompanying power point. The power point contains a set of questions and images designed to help pupils structure their writing and generate ideas which can then be tailored to describe their primary school experience. The children are encouraged to experiment and have fun with ideas and vocabulary choices. Given the limited timespan of a Leavers’ Assembly, Year 6 teachers often find that children - already tired and emotional - end up feeling rushed because they find it hard to share their memories in a succinct way. On the other hand, other children cannot think of anything relevant to say at all! The structured nature of this resource ensures that all children are given the opportunity to share their memories in a concise and meaningful way.
