This KS2/3 poetry resource encourages your pupils to experiment with their senses and play with ideas to write an imaginative summer holiday poem. Firstly, the children are asked to play with their senses by getting them to think of things that they would like to do during their summer holiday, that could not normally be done. For example: would they like to touch things that they could only normally hear? To hear things that they could only normally see? Or taste things that they could only normally feel? They are then encouraged to experiment further with other ideas that are equally impossible to do. For example: what would they like to jar? Where would they like to float? What would they like to take home? Tried and tested in the classroom, it consists of a complete lesson plan and an accompanying power point. The 22 power point slides inspire the children to be imaginative and original – borrowing ideas from the natural, philosophical and scientific world. A complete lesson, including starter, examples and differentiation.
