To create bespoke pupil name cards.
As we know children relate to the real world to help understand concepts. In this instant driving a car forwards, reversing and forwards again make instructions clear and relatable. Creating a class set of names will give each child a bespoke road and cars on each letter of their name/ once made they can be laminated and used for daily, weekly writing and/or recognition work.

Copy, paste or edit letters to match each child’s name.

Shrink a car for each letter and face it in the direction of writing at the starting point.
Top tip:- Use plain letter shapes
I teach children to recognise a letter to read before writing it.
The letter shape matches the font in most early reading books.
This helps with early recognition.
(I use a strategy to support teaching cursive script at a much later date in the year).
