Students cover definition of the term pathogen, barriers to entry including mucous membranes and phagocytosis by macrophages
Starter: Students brainstorm key words related to immunity from prior knowledge and work to define them
Main: Students define Pathogen and learn that some are species specific and some have crossed the species barrier
Students then annotate a diagram with barriers to entry
Students then complete a cut and stick exercise outlining phagocytosis by macrophages
Plenary: True or False exercise. Students decide which of the statements are true and which are false and then attempt to correct those which are false
