This lesson plan aligns with Oklahoma academic standard K.GM.1.3, in which students will learn to describe 2D shapes using both formal and informal geometric language. Included is a sheet with formal geometric vocabulary for kindergarteners, flashcards, and an assessment sheet. Use the flashcards to describe the sizes of each shape’s angles and sides. Examples of formal geometric vocabulary words are angle and congruent. As you teach the lesson, ask your students how many sides and angles are in each shape. Also, ask them if shapes are congruent.
