This is full lesson and will engage different ability groups. The lesson is suitable for KS4 pupils (14 - 16 age group). The approach is both formal and informal. Some proof are conducted step by step, but pupils are expected to give reasons why these steps are valid. There are plenty of exercise questions requiring the application of indices rules and some may be challenging.
The extension part deals with indices problems presented in equation form and the proof part may be used for whole class discussion.
