Interactive Extra Plenary Tasks / Extension Tasks / Self-Assessment Tasks - For the overachievers!

I have created this *no pressure resource * to inspire creativity during a time of formative assessment .

During my lessons i found that i always had overachievers, or during the end of a lesson, a little time to spare that i had not planned for. I wanted to create a fun activity that my learners would enjoy engaging in, in a none pressured way that is also meaningful and has purpose i.e. assessing what knowledge my learners have actually gained during my lesson.

I now leave this power point up in the classroom halfway through my lesson and when a learner has completed all their targets i ask them to choose 1 of 100 buttons on the power point.

Each button takes the learner to a task that they are to complete with what ever time they have left. They can be as creative as they like and this method avoids the whole ‘right answer’ ‘wrong answer’ approach to assessing a learners understanding.

Each task on the power point is designed to be creative and fun but asks the learner(s) to show facts/information or keywords that they should have learnt that lesson to assess if they have been paying attention or understood the material.

e.g. of tasks:

‘Design a tree, writing on each branch facts learnt in todays lesson’

‘Draw a zombie chasing after key words that you have learnt in todays lesson’

‘Create a comic book strip showing something you have learnt in todays lesson’

‘write feedback to the teacher about todays lesson, what went well and what could have beeb improved’

I have had a lot of success and fun with this resource and i am proud of how creative my learners have been to show their understanding!
