Powerpoint used to link fractions to ratios; introducing ratio and proportion. For the first slide ask students to shade in a fraction of three square grids, and then ask them to shade a specific amount of squares alternating with blank squares. For example, shade one square and leave three blank etc. Using this then to find a link between fractions and ratios. For lower ability students, shade simple fractions and ratios such as 1:3, 1:1 and 3:1, with 1/2, 1/4 and 3/4.
