Introduction to Cells

This presentation introduces students to the study of cells. It puts the subject into context by showing some history of cell discoveries and models, starting with Hooke. There are notes accompanying each slide. I am not a biologist and I have been a bit free with some dates - let me know if there are any glaring errors. After discussing this, I give students a glimpse of the cell as we see it nowadays, by showing Harvard's 'The Inner Life of the Cell' (3 min version, on YouTube), an excellent animation showing the workings of a white blood cell. Then we look at cells under the microscope.
