Students are challenged to determine Io’s orbital period using the equations of a simple harmonic motion and data taken from images obtained from the freeware program Stellarium
The material consists on: An editable presentation showing how the motion of the moon Io around Jupiter is an example of a simple harmonic motion (seen from Earth), the script for the teacher explaining the presentation and activity and the document for the students with the necessary images and a table to help then draw the graph and obtained the orbital period (.pdf and .doc).
