This lesson covers the content of 2.5, specifically:

• characteristics and purpose of different levels of programming language, including low level languages
• the purpose of translators
• the characteristics of an assembler, a compiler and an interpreter
• common tools and facilities available in an integrated development environment (IDE):
-editors

  • error diagnostics
  • run-time environment
  • translators.

The lesson was written for OCR’s specification, but should work equally well for similar concepts covered in other specifications.

There are activities built into the slides and the presentation contains a link to a multi-choice “Quizizz” quiz. These are always freely accessible, but are always written for and tied to specific lessons. Please note - when I use this lesson with my students, I set an exam question homework but I cannot include this since it is paid third-party content.
