These fun and engaging lessons are specifically designed by an examiner for AQA Paper 1 Pre 19th Century novel, Jane Eyre, although they would suit anyone wishing to study Jane Eyre. They include a range of both comprehensive and creative activities including differentiation and challenge.

I use these resources in my own classroom and they are a big hit, as well as very comprehensive!

The lessons provide a range of activities for students to focus on the Chapter 6 and 7 of the novel as well as exercises to compare the religious hypocrisy throughout the chapters. The lessons include powerpoints and resources for:

  • Close textual analysis of the characterisation of Helen Burns.
  • A model answer for a question on how Bronte chooses to present Helen Burns.
  • Resources on why Bronte chose to present Lowood, and Helen, in this manner.
  • Exercises on religious hypocrisy and resources to explore the difference in religious views, and how this is actively practised, by Helen and Mr. Brocklehurst.
  • Focus on the wider social commentary made by Bronte.
