This unit will take you through the GCSE set text Jekyll and Hyde using a ‘fast read’ approach. The workbook copy of the novel has been revised to include chapter summaries and a detective case file to track and unsolve the mystery of Mr Hyde. Also embedded within the text are ‘think points’ which are used to deepen the students understanding of how Victorian context influenced this gothic novella. For each chapter, there is a powerpoint with visual starter tasks to recap the previous chapter and engaging activites to develop essential exam skills in literature.
I have used this with mixed ability classes for a number of years. The lower end enjoy the fast pace of the story and the scaffolded booklet whilst the top end can embrace the challenge of the ‘think points’.
It only takes 3-4 weeks to complete, leaving a further 3 weeks to focus on extract based exam skills with the knowledge of the whole text.
Highly recommend the ‘fast read’ approach to Literature. It has always got me great results!
