This is a fully resourced lesson on “Jekyll and Hyde” aimed at Year 10 students. The lesson fits in well around halfway through the novel - I always deliver it around the beginning of Chapter 5 - but it can be done at any point after that.
The lesson gets students to consolidate their knowledge of the novel so far, whilst pushing them to consider how the six major characters and settings develop through the novel. The second half looks at how these links across the text can be used to improve the quality of answers. There is a writing frame and sample paragraph to support this and there is a substantial piece of writing at the end which I use as an interim assessment.
The first part of the lesson introduces a quotation tracking resource which is included both on the Powerpoint and as a separate publisher file. This can be returned to throughout the rest of the novel as a way of getting students to develop their ideas from this lesson and develop their understanding of the structure of the novel.
There is differentiation built into the lesson with challenge activities being marked with a star.
