A full scheme of work for Key Stage 3 students, introducing them to key ideas within the Victorian period, acting as a bridge to GCSE style study.
The unit follows ideas around the writer’s craft, using some of Dickens’ texts as a focal point. The unit covers extracts from ‘Oliver Twist’, ‘Hard Times’ and ‘Great Expectations’.
Analytical close reading skills are explored, as well as using the texts as a springboard for writing for a range of forms, audiences and purposes, including writing to argue, inform and describe.
The unit also covers some key contextual points within the Victorian period, such as The Poor Law, and ideas around crime and punishment.
