KS1 Summer Poetry Unit

An enjoyable five day poetry unit to use with KS1 during the summer term.

During the unit, children have the opportunity to read, study and learn two poems; one about water and one about the beach. They take a seasonal walk on day 3, in which they gather vocabulary, before spending two days writing their own poetry. All activities are engaging and interactive and allow children to work as a whole class, in groups, pairs and individually. As well as gaining experience of poetry, they also spend time learning about verbs.

Everything you need to teach the unit is included in the price. You will find:

• A detailed plan for each day, including a starter, an introduction, a main activity and a plenary,
• Curriculum objectives covered for year 1 and 2,
• A list of resources needed,
• A simple PowerPoint containing 2 poems and pictures for the activities,
• Poems to learn by heart,
