Children will start by using their learning from the prior lesson. Children will play a true or false game. These will cover key learning from throughout the unit. Ensuring children fully understand this lesson by placing the relevant prior learning/vocabulary in the forefront of children’s mind as they access the new learning as well as provide them with opportunities to make links.
To build up children’s conceptual understanding of food chains, children will reflect on questions such as why do we need food? This will then lead to looking at a lion’s food chain.
In the first independent task, children will be presented with a completed food chain and will have stem sentences to describe what is shown.
Children will then be taught how to construct a food chain. In this lesson, children will always start with a plant however they will be taught that in future years they will look at alternative orders of food chains.
Helping hands is provided for those who may need additional support to access the main task.
The chilli challenge should be provided to all learners the ’ differentiation ’ will be based on how children complete the task.
Children will have stem sentences to support oracy and enable children to focus on the learning rather than forming sentences.
