KS3 English Study - A Christmas Carol
A full unit of study with 23 lessons (62 resources) following Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol
Aimed at mixed ability year 8 classes, this unit of work is designed for a 9-week study and focuses on reading, analytical and transactional writing skills.
Each lesson has a PowerPoint presentation (to last for an hour lesson) and corresponding worksheets in editable Word format.
Lessons are scaffolded and each task within the lessons has colour coded stretch and challenge activities. The lessons work through the entire novel analysing characters and themes. contextual factors are introduce to extend analysis skills. Lessons also include assessment tasks to track student progress. There are model answers, inference flowcharts and quote breakdowns. There are stave summary sheets to help students recall each Stave which are embedded into the lessons.
The transactional writing lessons include diary writing, letter writing and review writing.
The SoW outlines weekly intent, content to cover, aspire higher suggestions for stretching students, SMSC question ideas, hints on prior learning from previous lessons and home learning suggestions. The home learning suggestion grid included is colour coded for difficulty.
This unit is designed to introduce students to 19th Century Literature. However it would be suitable for lower ability GCSE students.
