These are lessons 9-11 in a set of 13 based around Hazards for Key Stage 3.
Lessons are designed to last 1 hour and should provide a challenging introduction to Hazards.
L9. Avalanches: covers definitions, embeds skills e.g. contour lines to explain avalanche formation, introduces topographical maps, and types of avalanches/their characteristics.
L10. Effects of Avalanches: considers the impacts and introduces students to primary/secondary and social/economic/environmental impacts. Extended writing task to discuss experiences of avalanches with differentiated start points.
L11. Managing Avalanches: Newspaper analysis activity, peer-assessment activity for the extended writing task (L10), knowledge test, diamond nine activity on the management of avalanches.
Lessons have weblinks and resource sheets attached to powerpoint. Tasks have green pen answers to support marking and feedback. Spelling test and homework included. Split/differentiated tasks and challenge tasks throughout.
