Writing and analysing a poem about COVID-19. My theory is that asking KS3 pupils to analyse complex poems is challenging for them. Therefore, this lesson starts by having them write their own poem and think about using poetic techniques to create a tone/atmosphere. Then when it comes to analysing it later in the slides, the sticking point of exploring the effect of techniques is removed - they know what they were trying to achieve.
