This is the third lesson in a scheme of work suitable for year 7 focusing on the Norman Conquest. This lesson is an overview of the “Dark Ages” in Britain and is intended as the final of three lessons setting the context to the history of Britain in the centuries before 1066.

The lesson resource includes a do now quiz at the start, a reading activity which summarises the history of Britain from 410-1084. It recaps the Romans’ departure from Britain and the Viking activity and features some famous Kings from this period; Alfred the Great, King Canute and Edward the Confessor. This is supported by the slides, a literacy slide and comprehension questions to finish.

The resource is on sand background and is clearly laid out to reduce cognitive overload.
