A fun activity to help students learn about and celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Geocaches are small pots which have been hidden outside that have something in. For this activity, pots are hidden around the school site (outside, e.g. in a tree) and need to be found by students. Students have an instruction/activity sheet, which provides them with clues to find half of the geocaches that have been hidden. Students will find the other half of the clues for the other geocaches within the geocache pots that they find. Inside each geocache pot, students will also find a slip of information. This slip contains information about an LGBTQ+ representative relating to various school departments. To show that they have found each of the pots, they will need to find the answer to a question about each LGBTQ+ representative. They can then collect a prize (e.g. a rainbow pencil or merits) upon completion. This activity was used as an extracurricular activity that students had a week to complete if they so wished. It could be adapted/shortened for your own purposes.

Many students will likely have done geocaching in their spare time outside of school (there are apps, e.g. Geocaching, that you can download on your phone to help you better understand).

Included: labels for pots (update the year as necessary), instruction/activity sheet for students, answer sheet, information slips. You will need: pots for the geocaches (e.g. drawing pin pots) and small tokens for inside the geocache pots if wanted (e.g. shells, rubbers, stickers). Please note that you will need to edit the clues to reflect where you have hidden them in your school.
