This fun and informative complete lesson covers all content from AQA specification 3.8.4.2 “Differences in DNA between individuals of the same species can be exploited for identification and diagnosis of heritable conditions”.
Using a detailed and engaging PowerPoint the students work their way through the content with a range of whole class quizzes, paired and individual activities. The lesson is well structured and uses real life examples of genetic diseases to enhance the learning of the students. Learning starts with DNA probes, moves on to genetic screening and personalised medicine, finishing on genetic counselling. Worksheets are included as PDFs for students to complete (all answers are present on the PowerPoint) with a variety of activities such as labelling diagrams and answering exam style questions.
The lesson is self-explanatory in that you can simply click through, and it flows through the content. My students have really enjoyed all the lessons in this unit so far, so I hope yours do too!
