Lord of the Flies Revision Board Game

Welcome to ‘The Beast Within’: The Lord of the Flies Revision Game for GCSE English Literature.

Designed for group revision, the aim of the game is to be the first to reach ‘The Beast Within’ by answering relevant questions on William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Groups of 4-6 players will face six categories of questions:

• Events: Testing knowledge of the plot and the development of key themes and concepts.
• Quotations: Testing knowledge of key quotations from the novel.
• Symbols: Testing knowledge of key symbols and symbolism in the novel.
• Themes: Testing understanding of the impact and development of key themes.
• Analysis: Testing ability to analyse key concepts, themes, and ideas, similar to GCSE English Literature exams.
• Beast: The ultimate test of knowledge, including advanced ideas such as Darwinism, Freudian Theory, and Biblical Symbolism. This is to encourage knowledge that will aid the pursuit of GCSE Grades 8-9.

In order to play the game, simply print the instructions, game board, tokens and question cards according to their specified paper size (ensuring that question cards are printed double-sided to be able to identify their categories on the reverse) and, for additional durability, laminate them for future use before cutting them out using a paper trimmer. The game also requires the use of a six-sided dice (either physical or virtual).

Replay the game as many times as you like with your students and you could even send the questions home as additional revision material should you so wish!
