This maths mastery lesson was planned and taught as an observation lesson for a Year 5 class. The content could easily be adapted to suit a Year 4 or Year 6 class.
My class loved the MINECRAFT theme and the use of charcoal, gold, redstone, diamonds, emeralds and gold linked perfectly to our weights unit.
This lesson focuses on conversion between Kg and g and vice versa.
It includes an engaging MINECRAFT themed Powerpoint that logically works through Fluency, Probing and Maths Mastery challenges.
The worksheets follow the same theme and can be printed as multiple handout sheets to save printing.
I used filled small labelled bags of sand, gravel etc to represent redstone etc for the group practical weighing activity.
The observation went brilliantly with all the pupils really engaged and so this would be great for an observation or interview lesson.
