This lesson resource is in the form of an extended worksheet and study guide, taking students through a brief contextual lesson placing the play in the context of the development of theatre and within the context of Shakespeare’s corpus. It also considers the play’s creation at the time of the accession of King James I. Class tasks: a consideration of the play in the sequence of Shakespeare’s surrounding works and other popular plays; an exploration of the differences between verse and prose in sixteenth/early seventeenth century theatrical performances.
