UPDATED CONTENT & SPEC. FOR 2025/6 - Students are given an overview of the knowledge and skills needed in their study of the British Sector of the Western Front Historic Environment.

The 19-slide Power Point includes:

  • Slide 1: Title slide
  • Slide 2: A brief overview of the historic environment of the Western Front
  • Slide 3: An outline of the 3 question types
  • Slide 4: Starter Task - What are sources? What is an enquiry?
  • Slide 5-6: Task 1 - A practice enquiry to allow students to ask questions about a soldier who took part during the First World War. Students encouraged to ask questions.
  • Slide 7: Task 2 - A further practice enquiry example with students given a source about soldiers being treated in a trench.
  • Slide 8-9: Task 3 - Students practice using sources and asking questions to help with an enquiry - printable worksheet included.
  • Slide 10-11: Task 4 - Students given an opportunity to explore the ‘usefulness question’.
  • Slide 12-13: Task 5 - A simple background knowledge quiz about the role of the British during the First World War.
  • Slide 14-15: Task 6 - A further source usefulness activity - students are given 8 examples of types of sources and have to think about how they could or could not be useful.
  • Slide 16: Task 7 - A basic printable worksheet
  • Slide 17-18: Learning Review - Gap fill quiz with answers
