Aimed at higher ability Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils, this scheme of work and accompanying Powerpoint presentation are intended to provide a framework for using Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Flamingo Boy’ as a class reader. Also included are ten sets of high ability spelling labels, one for each week of the unit, and a shortened version of ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ by Jules Verne which is used in a summarising task.

The resource is not intended to be exhaustive, leaving you room to customize as you see fit. Hopefully it will save you around ten hours of work if you do decide to choose ‘Flamingo Boy’ as your class reader. With themes such as autism, World War Two and travel, it is a truly captivating read with much to explore for an able group.

Ten-week scheme of work
