Jeannie Baker’s Mirror is a wonderful text for close analysis, and this worksheet set will assist a high-school audience to closely analyse the text. The resource includes four worksheets, totalling 12 pages.
Activities include:
- Overview and comprehension (3 pages): A great introductory worksheet which helps students look closely at the text and consider the narrative(s) and how they interact. Introduction to the key themes of the text
- Close Study worksheet (4 pages): Detailed questions analysing the text and considering the way image composition shapes the narrative.
- Writing the text (3 pages): A scaffold for students to add text to the narrative. If this were not a ‘silent’ book, what words would accompany the story? A sample page is included to ensure this scaffold is easy to use and understand.
- Representations of Culture (2 pages): Mirror is not without criticism. This worksheet presents five provocative statement and encourages students to discuss these - whether they agree or disagree with each statement. Statements focus on diversity, cultural representations and stereotypes.
