LOs: To understand the meaning of mission and evangelism, and their place in the Church; to understand how and where Christianity is spreading worldwide and the strategies used to encourage Church growth
Lesson created for the AQA RS GCSE, however can be easily adapted. Students start by analysing an infographic of Christianity around the world in 2018. Then compare to the textbook, using both to sum up Christianity around the world and the growth of the Church. They then look into the words missionary, mission and evangelism, and write a paragraph using the textbook. Then students watch the BBC 1Xtra documentary ‘Gangs, Drill and Prayer’ (the link is on the PowerPoint) and consider their thoughts on this and whether it’s an appropriate form of evangelism. Then bullet point 2 quick arguments for and against a statement.
