Narrative Writing

This teaching sequence has been designed to boost the confidence of both teachers and students and enable them to write engaging and unique stories. The slides provide a step-by-step teaching and learning sequence which covers: establishing genre through character, action, setting and theme, character roles and functions, indirect characterisation and ‘show-don’t-tell’, unreliable narrators, omniscient narrators, intrusive narrators and limited third-person narrative viewpoints, the 5-point narrative arc and three advanced structural techniques as well as how to write suspense paragraphs and how to write action paragraphs.
