Detailed slides, note-taking organizer, and matching-style review activity. Use this product to teach your audience about the 12 most common negative thought patterns (AKA cognitive distortions).

This lesson helps students become more anxiety-literate. It helps them get a handle on their anxiety and increase their social emotional health. Teachers can use this to bring some SEL in to their regular-ed classroom, when teaching advisory, or with special populations. This can be used to supplement Second Step. This can also be used as staff training, peer education, or professional development.

Slides are ready-to-project and handout is ready-to-print for all materials. Hopefully this all makes your job as an educator easier!

With this download, you will receive:

  • A colorful, aesthetically-pleasing Powerpoint file that takes an audience through the 12 most common negative thought patterns Catastrophizing, Emotional Reasoning, Fortune Telling, Labeling, Magnifying the Negative, Minimizing the Positive, Mind Reading, Overgeneralization, Self-Blaming, and Should Statements. This slideshow features definitions and visual examples for each (as well as a 2-minute stretch break halfway through ...because SEL)
  • A Doc file containing a note-taking organizer for your audience to make use of during the slideshow and a matching-style review activity to use for review after the lecture. An answer key for the matching activity is included as well.

What my customers have said about my materials so far:

  • "Good presentation of material and I love the detail included in each lesson... I felt prepared to answer questions about the history because of the complexity of the docs and slides provided. "
  • "What's not to love?... The kids could follow with this resource, no problem."
