New Curriculum Michael Morpurgo Why the Whales Came Guided Reading Plans and Worksheets

3-6 weeks of lessons (dependent on how many sessions of GR per week) for Guided Reading, all based on Michael Morpurgo’s Why the Whales Came.
Suitable for Years 4, 5 or 6.

Colour coded worksheets based on the new reading skills 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e, 2f, 2g, 2h. Worksheets include a range of questions, such as find and copy, match the meaning, circle the meaning, and explaining their answer.

Five sessions per week:
Session 1- Reading with TA
Session 2- Reading with Teacher
Session 3- Independent reading and comprehension based on that week’s focus skill
Session 4- Independent reading and comprehension on a mixture of skills
Session 5- Reading for pleasure

These sessions can be extended to cover a longer period of time: also included is a set of vocabulary cards based on the book, so extra activities can be completed using these.
