These 2 lessons have been written for OCR 9-1 Chemistry C1.2 Atomic Structure.
The first lesson provides an overview of the structure of a typical atom, including mass, charge and size. It challenges students to calculate the numbers of subatomic particles in given atoms. It is differentiated with a choice of levels for each activity.
The second lesson defines ions and isotopes and builds on the challenges of the first lesson by requiring the learner to calculate numbers of subatomic particles in atoms and ions; and the numbers of neutrons in isotopes.
It ends with a challenging literacy task that can be omitted for groups that require more time to complete the numbers activities.
