A 10 question test on Algebraic formulae, comprising: 5 questions on procedural calculations; 3 questions on reasoning and communicating mathematically; and 2 problem solving questions. At the end of the test there is an extension activity which will allow more able students to stretch themselves. This resource is ideal for either formative or summative assessment and can be used in lesson time as a topic assessment, starter or plenary activity or for homework or revision.
Topics include:
Formulate simple formulae and expressions from real-world contexts, , for example, direct proportion, inverse proportion & growth and decay.
Substitute positive numbers into simple expressions and formulae to find the value of the subject.
Substitute positive or negative numbers into more complex formulae, including powers, roots and algebraic fractions.
Rearrange formulae to change the subject, where the subject appears once only.
Rearrange formulae to change the subject, including cases where the subject appears twice, or where a power or reciprocal of the subject appears.
Rearrange formulae to change the subject involving the manipulation of an algebraic fraction.
Recall and use the formula for the circumference of a circle and the area of a circle.
Recall and use Pythagoras’ theorem and Trigonometry formulae (SOHCAHTOA).
Recall and use the quadratic formula, Sine rule, Cosine rule and Area of a triangle 1/2abSinC.
Use kinematics formulae: v = u + at, s = ut + 1/2at2, v2 = u2 + 2as
