We created this pack for the students at our Independent School as we had to cram the teaching in to half a term.
We are gearing towards them being able to answer a question like 'How does Steinbeck use language to portray the impossibility of The American Dream?'
The pack contains a list of topics that will help them link back to this question, breaking the essay down into suggested paragraphs. Essentially this means you can teach directly towards the controlled assessment.
Also included is a summary of the context and characters - although we would suggest asking them to also do their own research on The Great Depression and The American Dream.
Finally you will find hand picked extracts from the novel which we have titled in relevance to what theme they would fall under. We know a lot of our students won't cope with reading the whole book so this is a quick and concise way of navigating them to the appropriate sections.
Hope it's useful!
