Here are lessons on the Eastern Orthodox Church. Specifically this is part of a project undertaken in London. The lessons are created for both KS4 and KS5 students. The creation of these resources have been supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project: Thyateira Project aims to to record the history, buildings, tangible and intangible cultural heritage assets that are associated with the Orthodox communities which run under the auspices of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople (Istanbul). These are primary Greek and Greek-Cypriot communities, but also include British, Russian, Belarusian, Serbian, Romanian, Latvian and other Eastern Orthodox faith followers. Our project aims to record the church and community buildings and oral micro-history of these communities in the Greater London area and mainly in the boroughs of Brent, Harrow, and Camden and to engage the local communities with their shared heritage. This heritage is on great demand to be recorded because the older generations who funded these communities are fading and the buildings undergoing renovations without recording most of the times. We aim to use these recording to create Religious Studies resources for mainstream schools and Language resources for Greek speaking minority and community schools. Additionally, communicating the importance of the tangible and intangible assets to non-orthodox communities we are willing to support the interfaith dialogues in the UK, to create resources for second language acquisition and to praise and promote the British values on inclusion, tolerance, diversity and equality.
