A set of resources showing colour cards from Ace to King in the suits of hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs. A lesson plan is included with 5 ways of using the resource.
Objectives: Help KS1 children develop sorting, categorization, and creative skills using playing cards. This activity combines mathematics with art, allowing children to cut out, sort, and design custom playing cards with shapes and colours.
Materials Needed: Printable playing card templates, coloured pencils/markers, scissors, glue sticks, cardstock, and optional sorting mats. Lesson planning sheet. Traditional playing card packs(optional).
Differentiation: Provide pre-cut cards and guided templates for less confident learners and introduce advanced sorting criteria for those ready for more challenges.
This activity reinforces fundamental mathematical concepts like number to 13, sorting, sequencing and categorization, but also allows children to exercise their creativity and fine motor skills.
