A full scheme of PowerPoint lessons and resources, designed to cover the poetry of World War One over a half term. Activities are suitable for all abilities and are differentiated. The scheme is designed for year 9, but could be used at any level of KS3 or adapted for KS4. A knowledge organiser and summative assessment are included.
The lessons work through a poetry of war anthology and workbook, which is included. The powerpoint contains the full scheme of work, and contains video and interactive resources. Main tasks include the social and historical context of WWI, drama, creative writing and reading tasks. There is a heavy focus on identifying and using language and structural techniques, in line with the new expectations at KS4.
Poems covered:
Anthem for Doomed Youth - Wilfred Owen
Does it matter? - Siegfried Sassoon
The Last Laugh - Wilfred Owen
Suicide in the Trenches - Siegfried Sassoon
The Soldier - Rupert Brooke
Who’s for the game? - Jessie Pope
Dulce et Decorum est - Wilfred Owen

Excellent resource; challenging and thought provoking for students.
Thanks for the resource. It looks just what I need so far. Can you please include the link to the L1 video? Thanks
This is a very well planned unit. Unfortunately only a few of the lessons will help me with what I need, but a well differentiated scheme of work! Brilliant.
