Create a poinsettia placemat using handprints. Poinsettias are often called ‘Noche Buena’ in Mexico, meaning Christmas Eve. This plant is a big part of the Las Posadas celebration which takes place from December 16-24th. You will see it in Mexican parades and as decorations in the home. In the 16th century, legend tells of a young girl who was too poor to provide a gift for the celebration of Jesus’ birthday. She gathered weeds to place in front of the church but bright red ‘blossoms’ sprouted and became beautiful poinsettias.
