We encourage teachers to refrain from giving students reading books before they have a basic knowledge of letter sounds, blending and tricky words. Many students are keen to both read and write, even at this early stage. By using this power point pro forma, teachers can either write simple books with controlled vocab for their students or students can write their own. We find students and parents rapidly get involved and become very creative with words, digital pictures and scans of drawings. Two of the files are examples of students work.
