This is a description of interesting activities, that can be made available to pupils during Black History Month. The workshop is a combination of storytelling activities for pupils at Key Stage 2, 3 and 4. There is also a step-by-step pictorial description of how to cook a popular West African rice dish called Jollof Rice.
Jollof rice is the progenitor of the popular African-American dish "Jambalaya". It was taken by West African women into the diaspora of North and South America. Varieties of this rice dish exist or occur in other culinary cultures. The Asians call their version of Jollof Rice "Pilau Rice". The Italians call theirs "Risotto" and the Russians have a similar "Plov"
