This 14 page program entitled “Promoting Social Skills Development” provides strategies and recommendations that encourage social skill development. Ideally, this program supports the individual to develop skills to participate and communicate more effectively with their peers.
This program explores:
- reinforcing positive social behaviour
- modelling
- discussing socially and inappropriate behaviours
- providing specific opportunities for sharing, taking turns and positive behaviours
- reward charts (visuals to support communication and understanding)
- hands-on activities of a list of appropriate and/or not acceptable behaviours (visuals included) to encourage the individual to differentiate and explore each behaviour.
- development of conversational skills (looking, speaking so everyone can hear, taking turns when talking and things you can do for your friends).
