A student instruction sheet and teacher/technician notes for ‘purple agar’ a practical designed to model antibiotic (or bodily fluid) bacterial inhibition zones without the use of bacterial cultures.
This safe method uses agar plates infused with indicator that reacts to various strengths of acid as they diffuse through the medium. The different strengths give larger or smaller diffused ‘inhibition zones’ and students can then decide which antibiotic would be most effective.
