Read Write Inc. Set 2, 3 and 4 Alternative Sound and Spellings Mat + additional sounds needed when teaching Phonics.

The sound mat categorises the most common 40+ Phonics sounds.

Each sound is colour co-ordinated.
Top row: alternative spellings for the ay, ee, igh, ow and ew sounds.
Middle row: alternative spellings for the ir, oi, ou, air, or sounds.
Bottom row: Additional sounds: ure, tion, tious/cious, ire, ear, ar, oo, ph, wh, ce and se.

Each sound has their matching Read Write Inc. picture and rhyme. I have made a picture and rhymes additional spellings ‘ie, flies on a pie’, ‘i, I am kind’, ‘e-e’, compete like an athlete’, ‘e, as in he, me, she, we, be’, ‘o, oh no I don’t want a pototo!’, ‘ue, continue the barbeque’, ‘u, for unite’, ‘au, the dinosaur is an author’, ‘ph, Phil the dolphin’, ‘wh, where’s the white whale?’, ‘ce, bounce the ball once’ and ‘se, a mouse in the house’.
